|BWIT and BIJF celebrate International Women’s Day 2012:
Increased enrollment of girls in science and engineering imperative
Dhaka, March 8, 2011: A Roundtable discussion titled ‘Connecting Girls, Inspiring Futures’ was organized by Bangladesh Women in Technology and Bangladesh IT Journalist Forum BJIT to mark the International Women’s Day 2012 at The Press Club on 6 March 2012.
Female students and teachers and of different schools of Dhaka, teachers from Dhaka University, and other Universities, members of the Bangladesh Women in Technology (BWIT) and BJIT participated at the discussion. The Roundtable was moderated by Ms. Luna Shamsuddoha, President, BWIT.
BWIT is perusing the task of encouraging girls to take up the study of science and engineering to become professionals in the global IT industry. The achievement of Anna Fariha by securing First Class First position in Bachelor of Science Computer Science and Engineering(CSE) at Dhaka University is recognized on this occasion to project this achievement and encourage the thousands of bright young girls. It is expected that it will help making girls realize the potential they hold and the resource they can become.
“ The achievement of Anna Fariha shows that girls can compete in this complex domain and excel. In a highly competitive environment with the inherent gender inhibiters, it is certainly not easy for a girl to come out first. On this occasion we reaffirm our call for the right education and orientation of the young girls to be properly equipped for gainful participation in the economy. We celebrate Anna Faria and call for the success of all young women hold a huge promise for rewarding engagement in the field of IT and they must be assisted to come forward,” said Luna Shamsuddoha.
